Benefit for injured paddler

Benefit for injured paddler

There will be a “Paddle Round the Bay for Faith” at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Hilo Bay, a gathering to show support for Faith Kalei-Imaizumi.

The Kamehameha Canoe Club paddler was injured when she was caught in the propellers of an escort boat at the start of the Pailolo Challenge. Since the Sept. 18 accident on Maui, she’s had numerous surgeries.

Unmotorized water craft are invited to join in. Kamehameha asks other clubs to form crews using their own canoes, or kayaks, oc1, 2, 3, 4, Sups, etc. The plan is to stop at least once to give a group healing prayer on the water.

Brown bag lunch and fellowship will follow. Supporters may bring lawn chairs and musical instruments for Kanikapila after the paddle. “We Got Faith” T-shirts and hats will be available. Kamehameha is hoping to film the event and send it to Faith to view during her recovery.
